I woke up today feeling slightly better but still a little dehydrated and like I didn’t have anything nutritionally to fuel myself. Despite that, I decided I wanted to give it a shot for the day so I ate my oatmeal and started packing up my gear. Pie heard me rustle around and came to check in and I said I wanted to give it a try and by 8 am we were packed up and ready to go.
By the time we had all our gear in the packs I could feel my oatmeal starting to resurface a little, not a great sign. I managed to keep it down, but we had hiked for only 45 minutes before I felt like I had run a marathon and my stomach was in knots. I sat down in some shade and Pie and I talked about our options. Luckily, we had some cell service and I was able to call my Mother who lives a couple hours away from where we were. So my Mother Wendy and Aunt Veronica came out and picked me up in the middle of nowhere. I decided that I needed to take some time off and possibly get checked out by a doctor. Pie hiked on and I will rejoin him, health willing, when our wives are set to join us at Old Station. I will have to make this stretch up after the end, which is a bummer, but I don’t think it would have been smart of me to try and continue on in my current state of dehydration.
So for now I sit on the sidelines, back in the Redding area to heal up and hydrate while my comrades hike on. Hopefully, the next few days will do me some good.
